Add a lovely spread of greenery and large touches of color to the landscaping of your home

A beautiful, put-together home is well-decorated on the inside. Each room has a personal look that harmonizes with all of the other rooms while still reflecting the personality of the occupant of the room. This is a given. But the outside of the house is just as important. It benefits from design and decoration, too. Beautiful trees, bushes, and plants turn a house from a naked domicile to a beautiful home. The landscaping is what dresses up the outside of your home. I mentioned trees, bushes, and plants as a representation of the three levels of plantings. hostas work well as edging plants. A hosta provides prodigious amount of attractive greenery.

The main job of the hosta is to provide a bed or expanse of greenery. While they have flowers, these flowers are not the purpose of the plant, as are the flowers on a geranium. They are just a phase of the life cycle the plant. The “star of the show,” is the foliage. Each plant puts out a large number of leaves that are wide and often heart-shaped. Most of the varieties are also deeply ribbed. People are amazed by the range of colors of these varieties. The common ones are a solid bright green. Colors vary from this bright green to dark green and even blue. Some of the favorites are variegated ones that have multicolored leaves. These are a combination of green and creamy yellow. Not all variegated hostas are the same. Some are white in the middle. Some have a white edging on the leaf. And some are striped. Hostas need to be in shady areas. Some sun in the morning is good for them, but afternoon sun will probably dry them out and kill them. Another problem with hostas is that they are a tasty treat for the local deer. Deer love to eat hostas.

While the greenery of the hostas is beautiful, your plantings look even better when there is a lot of color in the landscaping. You can go two ways with color. You can choose a color and use it exclusively, or you can have a variety of colors. When you mix colors in the garden, they can be either related shades of the same color, or you can plant every color of the rainbow. Remember: In nature, all colors go together. Geraniums are great plants for giving your garden bright splashes of color. Picture in your mind salmon-colored geraniums alternated with purple petunias. It may sound strange and garish, but actually these colors make a bright and beautiful combination. Another attractive display is bright red geraniums, white sweet alyssum, and purple ageratum. Geraniums can be planted in the ground but also make a lovely display in a hanging basket.

Many other types of flowers are colorful for your landscaping. A very popular variety is impatiens. Many people combine begonias in shades of red, pink and white. This is a lot of red and white. For a better combination brighter show of bright colors, plant zinnias. These bright flowers come in small and large sized and just about every color that flowers come in.
